This
image was captured with just the actinic lights on in the
tank. The corals use the
blue
(actinic) spectrum of light to make food via photosynthesis.
The fluorescent color
is from
the Zooxanthella, a symbiotic bacteria that lives in the
coral tissue. These
bacteria
use actinic radiation to make food and reflect blue light.
